I remember an experience some years ago as a graduate assistant when the Sales Representative of a book company demanded a prof. return to use a textbook. The response which I heard was funny and practical at the time. "At least this author invites me to lunch or dinner more than once a year. I don't get a damm from yours." The respond from the Sales Rep was simply an invitation for the inclusion as a listed reviewer for the next edition. When annual royalties for some textbooks are over $100,000. and the market plays it's function, are we really considering the academic content or financial benefit when adopting a textbook?
