Description

Equipment:

  • Multimedia PC with CD-ROM and live internet connection

  • Scan converter for PC output

  • VTEL distance learning equipment with control panel & two independently operated cameras

  • VCR

  • Laser disk player

  • Document camera (visual presenter)

  • 40 inch direct view television for student viewing , 2nd television at the back of the room for instructor monitoring.

Configuration:

All output is routed through the document camera to the television monitors (computer output is run through the scan converter first). Thus the instructor uses the controls on the document camera to switch sources for display. All equipment is controlled from the console on the front of the room. The room has seating for 20.

Typical Applications:

Distance learning. Presentation of Videotape and printed documents. The room can be used for presentation of computer graphics, internet, and CD-ROM material. However the use of a television rather than a data projection unit for output results in substantial restrictions on the range of digital material that can be presented. In particular, the small screen size (relative to projection equipment) and screen flicker (interdicted by scan conversion) requires the use of very large text in computer presentation.
